Sealing Worcester County Arrest Records

People arrested in Worcester County can petition to seal their records after certain waiting periods. Misdemeanor convictions become eligible for sealing 3 years after the case ends, per M.G.L. c. 276, Section 100A. Felonies take 7 years. These shorter wait times came from the 2018 Criminal Justice Reform Act.

Cases that were dismissed or ended in a not guilty finding can be sealed without any wait. Since the 2023 Commonwealth v. J.F. decision, not guilty findings are now sealed automatically by the court. For Worcester County cases, you file your petition at the court that handled the case, such as Worcester District Court or Worcester Superior Court.

Expungement goes further than sealing. It removes the record entirely. But it is only available for offenses committed before age 21, and only after a waiting period. Marijuana possession convictions may also qualify for expungement under M.G.L. c. 276, Section 100K. The state sealing portal has all the forms you need.
