Plymouth County Sheriff's Department

The Plymouth County Sheriff's Department is based at 24 Long Pond Road in Plymouth. The main phone is (508) 830-6200. Sheriff McDonald oversees the correctional facility, civil process division, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, K-9 unit, warrant apprehension team, and communications center. The Plymouth County Correctional Facility at 26 Long Pond Road opened in 1994 and holds county, state, and federal male inmates. It has modern security systems, medical services, educational programs, vocational training, and re-entry programs. The Women's Detention Unit and Pre-Release Center are on the same campus.

Under M.G.L. c. 66, Section 10, the office has 10 business days to respond. Available information includes custody status, basic booking data, charges filed, expected release dates, bail or bond amounts, and facility location. Medical records, disciplinary reports, security classification documents, and personal identifiers like social security numbers are not public.

Visiting After a Plymouth County Arrest

Pre-trial detainees (people arrested but not yet convicted) get three one-hour visits per week. Sentenced inmates get two. You must be on the inmate's approved visitor list and bring a valid photo ID. Arrive 30 minutes before the visit time. No electronic devices, food, or tobacco are allowed.

An important change took effect June 1, 2024: all personal mail to inmates now goes through the Securus Digital Mail Center, where it gets scanned and printed. Physical mail is destroyed 60 days after upload. Legal mail still goes directly to the facility at 26 Long Pond Road, Plymouth, MA 02360.

Sealing Plymouth County Arrest Records

Massachusetts law allows sealing of arrest records after certain wait times. Misdemeanors can be sealed 3 years after the case ends under M.G.L. c. 276, Section 100A. Felonies take 7 years. Dismissed cases and not guilty findings can be sealed right away. Since the 2023 Commonwealth v. J.F. decision, not guilty findings are automatically sealed.

Plymouth County Inmate Programs

The Substance Use Disorder Program at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility has 62 beds and runs a 4-month cognitive-behavioral curriculum. It is funded by the Department of Public Health Bureau of Substance Abuse Services. Inmates attend mandatory morning meetings on weekdays, take classes on denial, relapse prevention, and coping skills, and go to twelve-step AA/NA meetings four times a week.

The facility also runs a farm on Obery Street where inmates work. Community labor volunteer programs send inmate work crews to help with projects around the county. Educational programs include GED preparation, adult basic education, and vocational training. The civil process division in the Brockton office handles over 25,000 documents per year and is fully self-funded through fees, costing taxpayers nothing.

In 2023, Plymouth County recorded 589 total arrests, a 6.51% decrease from 2022. Juvenile arrests totaled 19. The arrest rate was 856.47 per 100,000 people. Group B offenses (less serious crimes) made up 50.3% of all arrests. Crimes against people were 34.5%, property crimes were 11.7%, and crimes against society were 3.6%. The top categories were "all other offenses" at 163 arrests, driving under the influence at 79, and larceny at 46.
